It all started as an idea in the summer of 2010, and the next summer Borrby Bokby opened up a second-hand-bookshop in a house in the small village located in the very south of Sweden, just 1.5 hours from Copenhagen. Now the booktown has 16 booksellers as members in the area, eight of them in the same house, and a lot of events for both adults and children.

In the area we have a lot of medieval churches but in Borrby the church is from 1840. People from all over the world come to our church to look at the very beautiful windows with glass pictures in wonderful colours.

We have events, for children and adults, at least once every month. It can be an author, a musician or someone else who have something interesting to tell us. Sometimes we invite local politicians meeting locals for questions and answers!

Just four kilometers from Borrby we have the most beautiful beach. White sand kilometer after kilometer. In one or two months in the summer the beach is full of bathing people but rest of the year we, who are living here, have the beach for ourselves. One can walk by yourself, singing or just listening to the sea. Wonderful!

In the middle of the summer we have one day with a market in Borrby. Every family is out eating, shopping and selling things in the street. Borrby Bokby is always active this day. We invite to celebrate with cake and you can meet Pippi Longstocking or other characters from children’s books. 

Just outside Borrby there is a rune. And since that was written there have been hundreds of writers living or visiting the area. In the old days they wrote heroic stories and later we have detective stories and stories about policemen solving crimes. Some of them are well known around the world. Many of the books have become films. 

Borrby is near Copenhagen airport so if you want to come from far away you may use the capital of Denmark and take a train over the famous Øresundsbron, one of the longest connections between two countries, and continue to Borrby!
