Önneköp is a small village in Scania, Sweden. We´ve been a book town since April/May 2025. Önneköp is a very thriving village with lots of activities of all kinds but mostly cultural as literature, art, music etc. We wanted more people to read and buy books, new or read books, discuss books and authors, and in general have a lot of books changing hands and stories to be told and listened to, so we became a Book Town!

 

Önneköp Book Town’s base is the book store (or a book corner) “Bokhörnan Önneköp” that sells both new and ”read” books and organise many different readings and events, and the organisation ”Levande Önneköp” that among many other things runs the cultural centre ”Kulturbryggeriet” where lot of events happens for ex. the ”Story telling evenings”.

The cannibal museum! The owner has travelled around the world and tells stories from his tribal visits and adventures and of course you can also buy his own books about his journeys.

In May: “The Literature Round”, authors from the whole region read and sell their books.

In Autumn: ”The dead writers society” during 4 weeks where we study one author, his/hers life, books and society.

Different literature events take place during the year.

 

In Önneköp you can even find two vintage shops, a country grocery store, a cannibal museum, a country store´s museum, cultural hiking, fantastic multisport arena, thai restaurant, biking trail, …

 

Our town is an ”independent” republic, with 37 ministers and with its own flag!

 

Önneköp belongs to Hörby municipality where the famous writer Victoria Benedictsson (alias Ernst Ahlgren) lived.

 

You can travel by car to Önneköp (ca. 55 minutes från Malmö) or by bus 471 from Hörby. The bicycle track ”Skåneleden 102” goes through Önneköp so you could even take the bike from Hörby.
